The use of onion in home treatment for warts
Although it does not have a very pleasant smell when cut, according to beliefs, its application can contribute to the elimination of warts or any other bumps that cause discomfort.
Next we will tell you more about this remedy that has been discussed among grandmothers for so many years. Take note!
Onion as an ingredient in home remedies
However, in the popular sphere it is also used as a remedy for various issues since it is attributed antibacterial and antifungal properties.
Although it has not been proven that onion is effective against warts, there are those who decide to take advantage of it to try to get rid of them. To do this, they usually use it in the following way:
- Cutting it in half and applying it on the affected areas for a while.
- Preparing a juice with the fresh onion, to eat every day. Although there are also those who apply this same liquid, to try to "soften" warts and thus facilitate their removal.
How to prepare onion as a remedy?
Taking advantage of the onion as an ally to remove small warts from the skin is very simple. In fact, as we already mentioned, it can be used internally and externally. So, if you want to consume it, take 3 tablespoons of onion juice a day. Now, to apply it externally, follow the procedure that we give you below.
Elements
- 1 raw onion.
- 1 cotton pad.
- Adhesive bandage.
Preparation
Slice the raw onion and pass it through a juice extractor. If you do not have this tool, process it in the blender (with very little water) until you get a homogeneous juice. There should be no lumps. On the other hand, it should not be a mixture neither too liquid nor too thick.
Application mode
- Dip a cotton pad in the liquid and rub it on the wart.
- Then, cover the preparation with an adhesive bandage and leave it to act overnight.
- The next morning, peel off the bandage and rinse.
- Repeat the remedy every night until the wart is removed.
- There is no preference on the type of onion to use. Therefore, you can choose both a purple and a white one.
Note: onion can cause skin irritation because when cut it releases an irritating substance: thiopropanal sulfoxide.
Because of this, it is recommended to do a small test in one area before using the remedy in its entirety. If there is an unfavorable reaction, it is best to suspend its use, wash the area and consult a doctor as soon as possible.
What is the most suitable for warts?
Despite the fact that home remedies can be recommended in the popular sphere, the most appropriate thing is to go to the doctor for an evaluation and diagnosis. On the other hand, it is not advisable to resort to self-medication or any other measure without the authorization of the healthcare professional. It must be taken into account that many measures that, although they may seem innocuous, can be counterproductive.
It is important to remember that for no reason should you try to remove warts by cutting or aggressive methods. Poor handling of the bumps can facilitate their spread to other parts of the body. Also, other complications could arise.
The dermatologist can make an evaluation and, depending on what you present, give you a treatment so that you can improve. Therefore, it is extremely important that you go to his consultation if you have warts or other skin problems.
Good habits support medical treatment
Although it may seem that the remedies are a valid option, it must always be borne in mind that not because they are made with natural ingredients, they are harmless. In addition, each organism is different and, therefore, what in one person can generate a favorable reaction, in others not.
